Conversations

We love that there are interesting conversations to be had with Clara nowadays. Here's three recent ones:

1. Bug!
(Clara lining up all her (Lego) ducks in a row...)

A few days ago, I was busy in the kitchen while Clara played with her puzzles on the carpet in her room (the one you can see in the picture above). Suddenly she came running into the kitchen shouting "Ih, Käfer! Ein Käfer, auweia, Käfer, ih!" ("Ew, bug! A bug, uh oh, bug, ew!") I was sure she had just found a piece of fuzz on her carpet (there are so many pieces of fuzz in a house with two cats, and Clara is easily upset by little bits), so I was ready to dismiss it. But Clara seemed so upset, so I said "Did you find a bug in your room on your carpet?" - "Yeah" - "Ok, let's go to your room and you'll show it to Mommy". So we went, and finally I asked "Where's the bug?", and Clara said "There!" - pointing at a puzzle piece in the shape of a bug in one of her animal puzzles! First time that she's played a trick on me, as far as I know...

2. Santa

Clara's Kita had their Christmas party yesterday. It was awesome: they went to a puppet theatre play (Clara told us it was about a mouse and a snowman), they had lots of sweets and goodies (so many, that our daughter had a complete sugar meltdown in the evening), and Santa came by briefly, too! Clara's teacher told Chris that most of the kids were very scared of him, but not Clara. She seemed to be very interested, and she LOVED it that he gave her a present! When I asked Clara about Santa's visit in the evening when I picked her up from day care, she said "Ich war lieb!" ("I was good!") Presumably they had asked the kids if they were good before they could get a present - so I guess this part of the visit stayed in Clara's mind very vividly.

3. Man-oh-man!

When Clara gets very frustrated, she sometimes says "Mannomannomann!" ("man-oh-man"). Since we never say this, as far as we know, we asked Clara who says "Mannomann" at Kita. Clara's immediate reply: "Katrin!" (Clara's teacher) Then we asked her who Katrin says "Mannomann" to? Clara: "Auweia" (="uh-oh") - that is, she says it when something bad happens. Yeah I bet.

Finally, three pictures from our visit to the Aquarium last weekend:
