Clara continues to have a fever, but it really hasn't been so bad, and there haven't really been many other flu-like symptoms. Last night was a little rough, but nothing on the scale of how bad it can get! Clara did really well today. We went to the zoo, and to the zoo aquarium for the first time! I was really amazed at how well Clara knows all the animals now. Especially shocking for me was the crocodile we saw. As far as I know Clara's never seen a photo of a crocodile, she's only seen hand drawn cartoon crocodiles in her books. But she knew exactly what it was even though we were looking down from a bridge and could only see half of it from directly above!
It's really tough to get videos of Clara talking, because she really likes looking at the pictures and movies on the camera screen after we take them. So typically after three seconds of filming Clara says "picture!" and tries to come around to the back. But here are a few from the last few days where I managed to capture a more or less natural situation.
The first is from tonight, and shows Clara using the German word "doch." In this case it means something like "is so!" So our conversation is like "is not! Is too! Is not! Is too!"
The next one is my favorite of the three. This video was taken right after Tanja came home a few days ago, and out of the blue Clara sings "Alle Vögel sind schon da!" Clara had sung it to me (also out of the blue) several times that night, that's why I knew what it was right away.
One day when she was going to sleep she started singing "Meine Uhr... ticka-tock, ticka-tock... Meine Uhr... ticka-tock, ticka-tock." I asked Katrin about it and she didn't know the song, but she said she'd ask around. It turned out that Jeanette had sung that song to Clara's group the day before! Clara really loves to sing, it's especially funny and cute when she's in bed by herself and we hear her sing things like "schlaf Emma schlaf," or "bring back bring back Opa to me to me."
The last video is taken shortly after the previous one. Clara was explaining what she saw in her book to Tanja.
Among Clara's favorite words right now are "da oben" and "da unten" ("up there" and "down there"). She really likes to point things out!
As this blog was going to post Clara was alone in her room (not sleeping, it's been an hour and a half since she went to bed) saying "CrocoDILE! CrocoDILE! CrocoDILE!" in different funny voices over and over! A bit later she needed Tanja to give her her turtle, and then when Tanja left she heard Clara telling the turtle "fish in the zoo, zebra fish! CrocoDILE!"

The part of the video where Clara accidentally says Lion instead of umbrella really cracks me up! I wonder if she happened to be looking at a lion and then said it by accident?
I love it! I miss you all! When I saw the pic of Clara I first thought that it was an old picture of Tajna, for real...
We love these videos! They remind me (Damien) so much of my nephew and niece. Rosa María used to say 'Oh dear oh dear oh dear oh dear' when something unfortunate had happened (like dropping her book down the back of the sofa), and Sam used to learn songs at nursery school and not sing them there (he was quite shy) but come home and sing them later at random times. These are lovely!
