18 Months!

Clara is one and a half years old today! Here are a series of pictures from last weekend, when she was "just" 17 months and a bit...

On Saturday we rode the s-bahn (subway) with our bikes to Grunewald, a large park within the city of Berlin.

The subway ride:

We rode our bikes through the forest, and stopped for a bit on a big grassy stretch next to a small lake. This photo was taken while still on the way.

After the lake we rode our bikes all the way home. It was slightly downhill almost the whole way, so lucky that we decided to use the Subway to get there rather than to get back!

I really like the setup of apartments in Berlin, something I always tell guests about but I don't think I've posted. The blocks are very large, and inside of them many of the apartments have large courtyards, and sometimes even playgrounds. Here is our small courtyard where we store our bikes.

It's a nice setup, because it means that many of the apartments don't face out to the street. This doesn't matter so much for us, because we live on such a quiet street, but even in busy parts of the city you can find apartments that are quite quiet.

On Sunday morning we rode our bikes to a nice park next to the Spree river that we had seen on one of our earlier trips. For now note how tall that slide looks compared to Clara:

Clara really liked the baby slide that's behind her in this picture. It's great for us at these playgrounds where she can climb up and ride down on her own!

Now remember that huge slide (well, huge compared to Clara) in the first picture? Well, check this out:

She's kind of grimacing in the photo, but she really loved it! She went down a number of times, always saying "Ga! Ga!" for "Again! Again!"

In the afternoon Clara was too excited to take her regular nap, so instead she fell asleep on our way to rock climbing. This gym normally has outside routes, but they're temporarily closed because they're building two or three climbing towers next to it! I can't wait to see what it's like when it's done, I hope they finish it early this summer!

That's it for last weekend's pictures. Clara's 1.5 birthday photos will have to wait until the next post, for now please enjoy this video of Clara eating "baby soup."

Ooh, 2 things I love. Maybe we can join in while we're there? Although we won't have bikes. So maybe not. Just the ice cream I guess! Oh wait, any vegan ice cream? Oy.

We've got a place right next door where you can rent bikes (there's a bunch of hostels in the area), so you should totally do that. Berlin with bikes is really fantastic!

ooh! do they rent baby bike seats? now we just need to know about vegan ice cream and we will be all set.

I think we should be able to find a place that rents bike seats - but if not maybe we'll get a "Chariot." I was thinking about getting one for when we go up to the Baltic Coast anyway.

Tanja's on the vegan ice cream case...

I love the 2nd picture from the playground, with her hand in the air. Looks like she's leading her forces into battle!

What a nice time you guys are having! Berlin looks so nice. (Why can't American cities be that nice:( )
