For a while now, Oscar has said "Mama", "Dada", "Clara", and maybe "more". But it's so nice to see him starting to communicate. This week, in addition to clapping, he also waved "hi" and "bye-bye" several times.
Today I went for ice cream with Oscar. He suddenly was very interested in something on the street as we were eating, and also talking "kae, kae!" I couldn't quite figure out what he was looking at. First I thought he meant a little boy at a table near us. Or maybe a passing car? He kept repeating the words though and it sounded most like "cat", but of course there weren't any cats around. Until finally I realized that the little boy near us was wearing a T-shirt with the face of Yoda on it, and his pointy ears! So Oscar meant to say "cat" after all!
Then tonight Oscar followed Louie under the bed, first saying "meow" and then very clearly "cat!", even pronouncing the "t". Chris and I both heard it. We're starting the book again recording all of Oscar's words, and "cat" goes in as one of the first ones.
