In that photo Clara was watching the baby in his daddy's arms. When the baby was sleeping in the bassinet (to Clara's right in the photo above) Clara would come over from her play every few minutes just to look at him. She was mostly just quietly staring, but once in a while she would explain to us that the baby was still sleeping. Clara was also really interested in the baby's mobile:
Clara did really great, and took a nap in our friends bed while the four of us played a board game! (Their baby is a real sleeper!) When we woke Clara up for the trip home she was still SO sleepy:
But sleepy switched to snuggly soon enough...
We then biked the whole way back to our house (about 17km!), with only a bit of help from the GPS Tanja gave me for my Birthday.
The next day we biked to Volkspark Friedrichshain and spent the day with Clara's Uncle Robert and Aunt Nadine.
We started off at a big playground, where Clara showed off to what serious heights she can climb without fear!
She still won't slide without Tanja or me, though!
A little later the woman to the right in the photo below started blowing soap bubbles for her daughter.
Still pictures cannot possibly express how exited these kids were!
After that we went for a picnic and ice cream on a lawn next to a pond. The idea was for Clara to take a nap during this time - she was close at one point, but the day was simply too exciting! She looks a little red in this photo, but it wasn't really that red in real life.
After Clara's non-nap we headed to another playground, where we spend about an hour playing in the sand. Clara was really tired at that point, covered in sand, and a bit red cheeked from the sun. She fell asleep on the bike on the way home, but luckily for us woke up when we got up the stairs. I took the photo below to show how "brown" she was from the dirt, but somehow the camera made it look like she has a horrible sun burn! You'll just have to trust me, there was no burn, and certainly no peeling skin, but this was a kid who was ready for a bath!
The weather has been co-operating for the last while, wonderful weekends with rain on Monday! Last weekend we spent May Day with our friend Carsten and his son Colin at our place and at a playground in our neighborhood. In the evening Clara's colleague Tina and her sister came over for home-made pizza and board games. On Sunday we packed a picnic again and headed to Volkspark Jungfernheide, about 4km North West of our neighborhood. We had another wonderful day on the playground and beach, and had another visitor on Sunday evening, when Tanja's friend Seb came to visit us for dinner.
To close, here's a video from a few weeks ago of Clara singing "Three little monkeys".
Here's what Clara's saying when she's not singing:
(start singing)
"Daddy, will da gucken, eigentlich" (Daddy, I'd like to see)
(continue singing)
"Jetzt kann Clara das gucken!" (Now I can see it!)

wow! she speaks English with a German accent! adorable.
Argh! That's kindof a sore spot for us... Actually, Clara doesn't speak much English at all, not even with Chris, and not even when we ask her in English. Sometimes she does, and she can translate a lot, but by herself she basically only speaks German now.
It's really awesome how much she can say, and she can understand everything in both languages (even things that aren't intended for her ;), but we'd like to encourage her to speak more English. I've switched to only speaking English at home again (I do anyway with Chris) so that there will be more opportunity, but it might still not work.
I think we need to go spend a longer amount of time in Canada with people who don't understand German...
