Anecdotes

Today we went to a Persian restaurant for supper, and they had a little water fountain in the middle of the room. Clara went over and was about to reach in when we had the following exchange:

Chris: The water's for looking at, it's not for fingers.
Clara: It's for hands!
Chris: No, it's not for hands either.
Clara: It's for thumbs!

While Tanja and Clara were building the tower below Clara said around the time I took the second photo "es fällt gleich wieder um" (it's going to fall down any second!).

March came in like a lion, and... continues like a lion? It just keeps. on. snowing. But it looks like it's finally going to turn around this week, and hopefully we'll be out biking again soon! Today on the way to the restaurant we told Clara she'd ride in the stroller (because the snow had turned to 2C rain) she responded hopefully "how about on the bike?"

I guess I must say "how about..." a lot when I tell Clara what I want us to do next. When Clara doesn't want to do something I suggest, like "how about we brush our teeth now?", she often responds with something like "how about spielen now?" (playing). Very often when we say it's bedtime she says "No! Wake up time!"

The other day at Kita when all the kids were sitting around the table Clara kicked the bottom of the table with her foot and it made a loud noise. Katrin asked "Wer war das?" (who was that?), and Clara anwered loudly "der Fuchs!" (the fox!). The other kids looked at each other and Clara, and took it very seriously - Katrin said that they then earnestly said to each other things like "yeah, that's right. Must have been the fox." The whole time Clara was giggling away at her joke, but the other kids didn't seem to get it!

(Clara's Opa has a game with her where he makes a noise and then asks "Wer war das?" (who was that?). When I tell her the story of the three pigs I make a knock and say "and who was at the door?" Clara always answers first "a fox!" or "a cow!" instead of the wolf.)

Clara has a book where a boy dresses up as a "Nachtgespenst," and she usually calls him a "Gute Nacht Gespenst" (goodnight ghost).

When Clara lines up a bunch of toys in a row she often says they're in a "conga lion." I know she knows it's "conga line", because she says it that way sometimes too, but she often says "conga lion" because it's more fun.
