The Persistence of Memory

So we unwittingly did another "experiment" today. Clara had to go for an immunization (second last until she's school-aged, woo hoo!), so we went to her doctor's office. She's been there two or three times, at least once for shots and once for an earache. Today the office was insanely packed, apparently when they opened this morning at 8am there were already 30 children waiting! (I guess this is why they don't take appointments on Monday mornings...) Tanja and I have noticed that a whole lot of people we know seem to be sick right now, hopefully we're not going to get something before we fly on Friday!

To get back to the point of the post, Clara was totally fine in the packed doctors office, and when we went in the examination room she was also cheery and interested in looking at things. But the instant she saw the doctor Clara started to SCREAM at the top of her lungs, like we've never heard her scream before! Apparently she can remember people that she's only seen once or twice and hasn't seen in over a month, provided the experience was traumatic enough. Of course, with the packed office the doctor didn't really even try to make Clara more comfortable, and in this case as sad as it is I can't say I blame him. We got in a lot faster than almost everyone who was waiting there, and they were there with kids that were obviously sick and miserable.
