First, we celebrated Oscar's birthday.
He had several parties, one at home with the family (including Oma, Opa, uncle, aunt and cousin), one at school, and one a week later with his friends that he invited. The invitation list had been a point of discussion for quite some time, but in the end it turned out there were several kids that Oscar wanted to invite from school, and that were happy to come. We had so much fun with these sweet kids, it was a low-profile, but really fun afternoon. After some cake we headed outside for an awesome treasure hunt around the block, organized by Chris. There were 22 hints to follow around the house & neighborhood...
... until they finally discovered the buried treasure!
... which was then distributed fairly.
The kids had some time to play outside, and then just a little more time for traditional Topfschlagen (and more candy prizes) inside, before it was already 6pm and time to go home. A perfect summer birthday!
We're so proud of our 5-year-old big boy... so independent, so clever, so sweet and caring, so full of ideas (and still easily frustrated if they can't all be realized). I can't wait to see what he'll learn to do this year.
