Delayed birthday report (5!)

Wow life has a way of catching up with us. Or maybe, sucking us in and definitely not leaving any time for blog posts. Lots of things have happened as we've adjusted back to our regular work and school schedule. In any case I only have time for quick smart phone snapshots, but I want to at least upload the best of them here, so that we have them archived for later. There will probably be several short, photo-heavy posts soon. Hopefully.

First, we celebrated Oscar's birthday.

He had several parties, one at home with the family (including Oma, Opa, uncle, aunt and cousin), one at school, and one a week later with his friends that he invited. The invitation list had been a point of discussion for quite some time, but in the end it turned out there were several kids that Oscar wanted to invite from school, and that were happy to come. We had so much fun with these sweet kids, it was a low-profile, but really fun afternoon. After some cake we headed outside for an awesome treasure hunt around the block, organized by Chris. There were 22 hints to follow around the house & neighborhood...

... until  they finally discovered the buried treasure!

... which was then distributed fairly.

The kids had some time to play outside, and then just a little more time for traditional Topfschlagen (and more candy prizes) inside, before it was already 6pm and time to go home. A perfect summer birthday!

We're so proud of our 5-year-old big boy... so independent, so clever, so sweet and caring, so full of ideas (and still easily frustrated if they can't all be realized). I can't wait to see what he'll learn to do this year.

Oscar. (personality study)
