unser Seepferdchen

Yesterday Clara finally took the test that German swimming pools administer to decide whether kids are allowed in the deep pool or not. Here she is showing off her certificate, and the "Seepferdchen" patch that will soon be sewn to her swimsuit:

To get the Seepferdchen, kids have to swim at least 25 meters in the pool (Clara swam the full 50!), and be able to dive under the water to retrieve something from the bottom. The lifeguard told me she still has to work on opening her eyes under water and diving without using one hand to plug her nose (!), but that she had a very nice technique during the swim. Clara has been ready to take the test for months, this was just the first time we happened to be in a pool when the lifeguard had time.

A few weeks ago we went out to dinner one evening, and on the way home Clara complained she was cold. I lent her my shirt, and then Oscar borrowed Tanja's sweater:

It was really cute, and they were dancing down the street gabbing with each other merrily. At some point, Tanja and I were about 10 meters ahead of them, and we noticed a man who had just passed them, and who looked really worried. He kept turning back and looking at them, and at the end of the short street we were on (where Tanja and I were waiting for the kids to catch up), he stopped and looked after them. At some point, he finally realized they were with us, and breathed out a HUGE sigh of relief! Based on the clothes, he was worried the kids were homeless!

These days the kids often play really really well together. Here they are hanging out together recently at a local park that we call the "hide and seek playground":

This year Clara has done much better with her occasional fear of heights. You can see that in this video:

She often rides it much more quickly, but I liked that video the best because of the kiss at the end.
