Happy New Year!

We had a quiet New Year's celebration with just the four of us at home. Well, not exactly quiet...

Berlin is INSANE at New Years. The ENTIRE city looks like this from about 10 pm until about 1 am on New Years Day. We live on a very quiet residential street. Berlin has 5,200 km of streets, and every one of them looks like this on New Years. Fireworks are only legal at New Years, and Berliners really make the most of it.

Clara had a bit of homework to do over the break. Part of it was work she didn't get finished during class (probably because she was goofing off with her neighbors), penmanship. I really hated having to write letters over and over and over and over and over again, and Clara feels the same about numbers. Although writing a page of the number 8 would only take her about 5 minutes, she would usually spend about 15-20 minutes crying about how awful the whole thing was...

The more fun assignment was to work on her English "hot words". I turned the lists into a game of "go fish", and she loved it (and had them all down by the time the vacation ended).

Oscar at breakfast one morning...

Shortly after Clara got back to school, she lost her second front tooth. It's really cute, but sure complicates eating.

Having fun showing the kids how long-exposure photos work:

And finally, here are two random photos from 2013, when we went on a ride on an antique train car.
