Oscar's language is really surprising us. Bilingual kids often speak a bit later, and we've heard the same for boys and second children. But Oscar has been very communicative from the start. We've been keeping track of his words, and he already says almost as many things at 17 months as Clara could at 20 months! In the video he's repeating the names after us, but he doesn't seem to repeat words he doesn't know, so I think he really knows who he's talking about. He won't respond to 'Oscar, can you say "cupboard"', but he will answer if you ask him to say "Auto" (but not "car").
His most recent words are "hot", "heiss" (we have advent candles), "Auto", "tickle", and "chocolate". Today I was in the playroom with Clara and Oscar, and at some point Oscar suddenly stopped playing and ran to the door yelling for chocolate! When I opened the door he ran for the kitchen and stood straight under the advent calendar yelling "chocolate! chocolate!"

Since his words aren't super clear yet, I wonder if maybe to some extent we're just getting better at understanding what he's saying. Tanja also points out that we were probably a bit stricter on what counts as "saying a word" with Clara, as we started counting later.
Anyway, it's been very fun, and Christmas is sure to be a wonderful time of discovery for Oscar!
