Happy Due Date!

Today was Oscar's official due date. His last weigh-in was on Friday, when he weighed 3620g (8lb). He weighed 3440g on August 31, so assuming his trend is continuing, that would put him at about 3740g (8lb 4oz) today. We went for Oscar's first pediatrician checkup last Tuesday, and his weigh gain was so surprising to the doctor that I don't think she believed us that his initial weight was accurate! But one look at the cheeks tells you all you need to know:

It's very difficult to believe it's been almost two weeks since he was born already. I guess time flies when you're having snuggles:






Clara has been having a great time with her baby brother, and also with the guests we've had (Oma, Opa, and Lukasz from Warsaw). I think Clara's still sorting out her emotions surrounding Oscar and us. She started to act out a bit (albeit in very minor ways) at Kita the day after he was born, and she gets in strange moods every once in a while. But for the most part she's doing amazing, sleeping well, usually happy to go to Kita in the morning, and as funny as ever!




So far (knock on wood) Oscar has been super-easy to take care of. He eats well, sleeps well, burps well-ish, and almost only cries if he's either cold (diaper change) or hasn't eaten for more than about two hours. After the first few days he stopped being active at 1am, and he usually has two active periods a day. They're getting longer and longer, but he still sleeps more than the cats!! He's been outside several times, and seemed to particularly enjoy the playground today, where he slept, ate, and slept.


Since Oscar was born our bedroom has been off-limits to the cats, who are, as was to be expected, not impressed by this state of affairs. They've been mostly pretty good about it, but if you give them the chance they know how to make the most out of it!
