Easter update

We spent the Easter long weekend in Stralsund with Clara's Oma.

The weather forecast had been for nasty rain, and instead we just had cold weather with some sun. Given how bad the forecast had been we were all really pleased! Clara spent lots of time on the playground:

and got to feed some ducks:

Hey, those are for the ducks!

Even coming home from the playground was fun!

We also took a trip to the Stralsund zoo, and the "Hansadom", Stralsund's fancy swimming pool.

Clara's Opa took us for a tour of the giant Stralsund aquarium (the "Ozeaneum")

And on Easter Sunday Sampo came from Rostock and it was time for an Easter Egg hunt! These two were so cute on the way to the hunt!

Sampo seemed to be a little better at the running up the hill and spotting eggs, but we heard he had a bit of practice the day before! In any case, I was impressed by how fast and how well he could maneuver on this reasonably steep slope:

We all hope we'll get to see Sampo and his family again soon!

The last few days have seen some real developments in Clara's personality. A few days ago she started shrugging her shoulders when she doesn't know something, and she's picking up loads of conversational phrases. The other day when I asked her if she could do something she shot back "Na klar!" It translates as "of course", but (depending on the situation) it's often used more like the English "sure!" or as a much nicer and polite thing to say when we might say "duh." It was funny and surprising for me to hear Clara express a thought like "duh... of course I can, what do you think?" to me. The other thing she's started to say recently, usually when she's trying to remember something or when I ask her what an English word is, is "ummmmm..."

This video is really funny. Clara got this little dog for Christmas, and I'd never seen her dance and sing with it like this until yesterday! I love it when she sings "I've got you too!"

Clara is a real chatterbox! When she's doing pretend play I often don't really understand what she's saying, but boy does she say a lot!

The little mistakes she makes with language are always very cute. The other day she told Tanja that she had a "bartmilch" ("beard milk" instead of "milk beard"). One German mistake Clara makes that's very cute is that when she uses the infinitive of a few verbs she puts in an extra "n": gehnen for gehen, fahrnen for fahren, and I think sehnen for sehen. I could also swear I've heard her use Berlin dialect ("ick" instead of "ich", and once "jut" instead of "gut"), but it's not consistent enough for me to be sure I've even heard it.
