Alberta blogstravaganza: Part 3

Tanja, Clara, and I were in Alberta for a week after the wedding. The day after Mom took us all to brunch in the hotel we stayed in. Clara had started to get a cold the night before, and we didn't know it yet, but she was starting to get an ear infection when this photo was taken:

That afternoon our friends Jeff and Barb (and their daughter Cambie and their dog!) happened to be driving from Edmonton to Calgary, so they stopped in at my parents place. Tanja and Erika were delighted to have a chance to hold Cambie, somehow I seem to have missed out.

The day after Jeff and Barb visited Tanja took Clara to the clinic, because she seemed to be getting worse and it wasn't too long until we'd be flying. Good thing she did, as it turned out Clara had an ear infection! For a few days after we got the antibiotics she wasn't eating anything (one day all she ate was one Cheerio), and that made getting the medicine into her tricky. We had to hold her and inject it into her mouth with a syringe! By the fourth or fifth day she had figured out how to spit it out even with someone having a finger in her mouth to keep it open! Luckily, at the same time she was starting to eat again and was willing to take it from a spoon.

Clara started to feel better quite quickly once she was on the antibiotics, and Mom and Dad watched her for a day while Pat and Dana and Tanja and I went skiing at Nakiska. Below is a video I took of Tanja skiing. Can you believe that this was only Tanja's third day downhill skiing ever???

Here is the trail map for Nakiska, the video starts on the run marked "19a" and the steep part is on the run marked "20."

Clara was really excited on the ski hill when she came to meet us for lunch. It seems like she can't wait to start skiing!

The day before we left for Berlin we visited Clara's other "twin." My cousin Cara's daugher Lyric was born on the same day as Clara and Lucia, and this was Clara and Lyric's first chance to meet each other! They seemed pretty happy to play in parallel with each other, and they're really at pretty identical stages of development!

At the kita (daycare) Clara's favorite toy is a toy stroller. It's a little smaller than Lyric's toy stroller, though, and I think Clara liked this one even more!

Here's a "families" photo:

We spent our final evening in Calgary with Jeff, Barb, and Cambie. We finally got to eat at the restaurant Jeff and Barb started, "A Tasty Menu - Gluten Free Gourmet." Their restaurant's menu is entirely gluten free, and they specialize in the kinds of foods that are hard for people with celiac disease to enjoy in most restaurants, including pizza and sandwiches. I had a pizza, but next time I'm going to have a "Jenny Burger," Jeff had one and it looked awesome! If you're in Calgary you should go try it out some day, and if you know someone who has celiac's please pass the tip on to them!

Our flight back to Berlin was fairly uneventful (ie. fantastic). Clara slept on Tanja almost the entire way (again), so Tanja was a little sore, stiff, and tired, but we got here with all of our luggage, and almost no crying from Clara. Tanja and I got over our jet lag almost immediately (the flight landed in Berlin in the evening), but Clara has been having some trouble with waking up in the middle of the night. Clara started daycare this week, and I'll probably post something about that this weekend or early next week.

Finally, here are some random photos that my Mom sent that I really liked:
