Today I had just finished up vacuuming the house when I heard Clara and Oscar having one of their favorite arguments behind a closed door:
Oscar: You're BAD!
Clara: No, I'm good and you're bad, you pulled my hair!
Oscar: No, I'm good and you're bad, you hit me!
I ran into the room and yelled at the top of my voice "I'm BAD, and you're GOOD" pointing at Oscar, and then the same at Clara. They didn't say anything, so I said it again. Then, Oscar said "Daddy You're bad" and I said "I'm rubber and you're glue, whatever you say bounces off me and sticks to you", and both the kids thought this was hilarious.
Clara wanted a turn to be rubber, so I let her say it, and then I said "you smell like potatoes" and she said "boing..." and I cried out "oh no, I smell like potatoes, help me!" etc. Then it was Oscar's turn and I told him that his feet were muddy. The kids then had to find a basin to wash my feet in so that they wouldn't be muddy anymore. We went through several rounds like this until somehow we all ended up being witches.
So Clara decided to make a witches potion (or stew?), with disgusting things like mud and worms in it. (She was playing out two of her books that present revised versions of "stone soup", "Wombat Stew" and "One Witch"). Some of the stuff she came up with was pretty dramatic, but I can only remember the last four horrible disgusting things: a dragon, baby's blood, Oscar's bones, and... tomatoes...
Here are the kids playing with the bath pens they got for Christmas (the inked up water was crazy):
Oscar sleeping off his "trip" on the subway:
I was in the Slovak Republic this week. Here is a photo from a hike we went on to see the remains of a 2700 year old fortified village:
And the view of the castle that I stayed at:
The castle is owned and operated by the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and they run conferences during the week and weddings on the weekends. If you ever get invited to a conference there, you should totally go!
