In bilingual fashion

Oscar stayed home today because he has a cold and occasionally a bit of a temperature.  He seemed really miserable in the morning, but perked up by the time he should have gone to Kita, but by then it was too late to send him.  It was a shame, because today the Kita celebrated Fasching (Mardi Gras).  Fasching is kind of like Halloween in North America, all the kids come to Kita dressed up in costumes, and they have a big breakfast and party.

Clara found a costume with her Oma last week, but every time we talked to Oscar about it he said he didn't want to be anything (he doesn't really know what it is yet).  Here is Clara in the morning:

Anyway, when Oscar and I picked up Clara, she was full of stories from Fasching, who was dressed up as what, and what they did, etc.  When Tanja came home Oscar told her that he didn't "Fash" today.  We didn't understand what he meant, and he repeated it several times, each time more emphatically, "Clara Fashed but I didn't Fash"!  Finally we figured out that he had recognized the English -ing ending and then naturally assumed that "Fash" was an English verb (there are almost no German words that end in -ing), and he conjugated it properly to explain what he did during the day.
