Fine dining

With all the visitors we had a few weeks ago we had ample reason to choose restaurants over eating at home. Susy and Nancy particularly liked our favorite neighbourhood Italian restaurant, I think partly because the guy who owns it is super nice, and was more than happy to produce vegan meals even if they weren't exactly what was on the menu. The kids seemed to like it too! The owner has set up a special area where he seats large groups or families with kids, so that the kids can run around without disturbing other diners. He also immediately brings out books for the kids, and he has a highchair that converts into a rocker! Here are (left to right) Alex, Eric, and Jacob checking out one of the books.

And then later enjoying their pasta-with-sauce-on-the-side. (I wish I'd managed a better photo, it was really really cute!)

On another day Susy and Nancy treated us all to dinner at a nearby Thai place. This also went over very well, and we lucked out as it poured rain outside the whole time we were in the restaurant. The man in the middle in the photo below is Per-Arne, Eric and Alex's father.

We didn't eat every meal out, though! One evening Tanja made us all her "awesome lentil soup," which was also a huge hit with the kids. One of the kids had the idea of eating at Clara's "work table," which was naturally a great idea (and also very cute!). The adults in this photo are sisters Linda (left) and Susy (right).

The day that Linda, Per-Arne, Eric, and Alex left, we went to brunch (for Nancy's birthday!) at a fully vegan restaurant/cafe in Prenzlauer Berg. The cafe had all kinds of couches rather than standard restaurant tables and chairs, and you can imagine what a hit this was with the little ones!

Clara having a snugglefest with Tanja after brunch was mostly finished:

One of the highlights of the vegan brunch was tofu that looked like fried potatoes and tasted... well, nothing like potatoes but actually pretty great. I'm usually not a big fan of tofu (and especially if it's pretending to be meat), but those "fried tofu potatoes" were really quite good. Of course we were all a little confused as to why they didn't also have actual fried potatoes, but whatever!

That's it for the food-recap of the last few weeks. But as an extra special bonus check out how long Clara's hair has gotten! It's usually all curled up, and doesn't look nearly this long!

The next blog post will have photos and videos of the kids playing and dancing, and of our neighbourhood marching band. See you then!

What a great time you all had!

I usually find it easier to see how Clara looks like Tanja, but I have to say that in the karate-kick picture in this post she looks a lot like her Daddy. I think it's the mischievous grin ...
